Why bringing people together to network and connect matters, especially in the charity sector

Everything we do revolves around one core belief: connection fuels impact.
In a sector where resources are limited and time is precious, collaboration often gets pushed to the bottom of the list. But we’re here to say, it should be at the top. Networking isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s essential. And here’s why.

1. We’re stronger when we work together
No charity, CIC, or voluntary organisation can solve social issues in isolation. Many of us are working toward similar goals, improving community wellbeing, tackling inequality, supporting vulnerable people, and we often overlap in the people we serve.
Networking brings like-minded people together. It helps us identify shared challenges and discover where our work can complement each other’s. This reduces duplication and creates a more joined-up approach to community support.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller
2. Sparks ideas and innovation
Sometimes, the most effective solutions come from casual conversations over coffee, not from the boardroom. When charities, funders, local authorities, and businesses share space and talk openly, new ideas emerge.
Through networking events, we’ve seen collaborations blossom that would never have happened otherwise. One charity may offer mental health support, another may run art workshops, together they create a holistic support system.
Networking gives organisations the space to be creative, to think outside the box, and to co-produce ideas that serve communities better.
3. Increases your chances of funding
Here’s the reality: funders love partnerships.
Whether it’s local authorities, grant-makers, or corporate sponsors, they want to see organisations working together, sharing resources, and delivering greater value.
By building relationships through networking, you naturally position your organisation for:
- Joint funding bids
- Partnership projects
- Referrals and support from funders you’ve met directly
You also gain insight into upcoming funding opportunities by simply being in the room with the right people.
4. Builds knowledge and confidence
Not every charity has a dedicated team for training, finance, marketing, or HR, especially small and grassroots ones.
Our networking events often feature expert speakers, spotlight sessions, and shared resources that help build the capacity of charities. Whether it’s a talk on safeguarding, a demo on digital tools, or a peer-led discussion on volunteer recruitment, attendees leave with real, usable knowledge.
It’s not just about what you learn, though, it’s about who you learn it from. Peer support builds confidence. Hearing “we’re struggling with that too” is reassuring. It helps you realise you’re not alone.
5. Opens doors to business collaboration
One of our big focuses at The Charity Hub is helping charities connect with the private sector. There’s so much untapped potential in these partnerships.
Local businesses are increasingly looking for ways to support their communities. Through CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives, volunteering days, sponsorship, or skills-sharing, many businesses want to get involved. They just don’t always know how.
That’s where we come in. Our networking events create a space where businesses and charities meet as equals, learn from each other, and identify shared goals.
The result? More resources, more impact, and more sustainable relationships.
6. Grows your visibility
Let’s face it, doing amazing work means very little if no one knows about it.
Networking helps put your charity on the map. Whether you’re attending, speaking, or just having a one-to-one chat, you’re telling your story. The more people know about you, the more they can support you, whether that’s through funding, collaboration, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.
Attending our events is a free PR opportunity, with the added bonus of authentic relationships at the heart of it.
Why we do what we do
We host monthly networking events in Doncaster and Rotherham, with more areas to come.
Each event is free to attend, and every one is different. You’ll find guest speakers, charity spotlights, open networking, and plenty of chances to connect.
But our goal goes beyond just putting on an event. We’re building a community, one that values collaboration, celebrates impact, and believes in the power of connection.
Your network is your net worth
If you're a charity, CIC, or voluntary organisation, attending a networking event could be one of the best investments of your time.
Not because you’ll walk away with instant funding (though that does happen!), but because you’ll walk away with relationships. And in the third sector, relationships are everything.
So whether you’re brand new to the space or an established organisation, come along, grab a coffee, say hello. Let’s build something bigger together.
