A Warm Welcome Despite the Heat: Reflecting on Our July Charity Hub Event

Our latest Charity Hub networking event took place on Thursday 9 July, and despite the heatwave, it was another positive morning of connection, conversation, and shared learning.
Bringing people together during a very warm week is never without its challenges, but it was brilliant to see charities, CICs, community organisations, suppliers, businesses, and local partners still making the effort to attend, take part, and connect with others across the sector.
The event was another reminder that strong communities are built through relationships. A simple conversation can help someone discover a new service, understand a local organisation, explore a referral route, or find a future collaboration partner.
Showing Up Matters
When the weather is uncomfortable, diaries are busy, and organisations are already stretched, turning up to an event is not always easy.
That is why we are especially grateful to everyone who came along.
The Charity Hub networking events are designed to create welcoming spaces where people can speak openly, share what they do, and learn more about the support available across Doncaster and the wider region.
For many charities and community organisations, being in the room can make a real difference. It gives people the chance to explain their work, ask questions, build trust, and find out where there may be opportunities to support one another.
Hearing from Andy at OSMIS
We were pleased to welcome Andy from OSMIS as our guest speaker.
Andy shared more about the journey of building and growing OSMIS, including their work with children, young people, families, schools, and care partners through mentoring, inclusion support, and Alternative Provision.
His talk gave attendees insight into the importance of supporting young people who may need a different approach to learning, confidence, and personal development.
It was also a chance to hear more about the challenges and opportunities of growing an organisation in this space, as well as the support OSMIS may need as they continue to develop their work.
A Room Built on Conversation
As with all Charity Hub events, the value of the morning was not only in the formal parts of the session.
It was also in the conversations happening around the room.
People introduced themselves, shared what their organisations do, discussed local challenges, and explored ways they may be able to support one another.
These moments matter because collaboration often starts informally. It may begin with someone saying, “I did not know you did that,” or “We should speak after this,” or “That could really help someone we support.”
That is why networking continues to be so important across the third sector.

Even in the middle of a heatwave, the room showed exactly why these events matter.

We are currently confirming the venue and further details, and we will share more information as soon as everything is finalised.
The August event will continue our focus on connection, collaboration, and shared learning, bringing charities, CICs, community organisations, businesses, suppliers, and local partners together once again.
