About the grant

The Ministry of Justice Reading for Redemption Phase 2 Small Grants Scheme supports pilot reading and reflection programmes in prisons, alongside evaluation of participation, learning and rehabilitation outcomes. The programme has up to £80,000 available for awards of up to £20,000 each.

Who can apply

Applications are limited to UK higher education institutions, recognised research organisations or academic partnerships led by eligible institutions, with support from a participating prison. This is specialist academic-led funding, not a general grant for independent community charities to apply for directly.

Closing date

Applications close Sunday 22 November 2026 at 11:59pm. Applicants must meet research governance and prison-delivery requirements.
